Collared?

So my SO just gave me a collar... he said I didn't have to wear it or even keep it. He said that it's his way of showing that I am his which I appreciate and think is sweet. However, I'm new to all of this and am looking for a females prospective of how they felt about being collared and just collars in general.

To me, collars are basically like getting married. My daddy just gave me a play collar for my birthday. I take collars super seriously because they are a precious gift from your sir, them saying they want to keep you around for good. :)

I never received any bondage gear from my ex because he didn't particularly enjoy BDSM. I'm really into BDSM, and I bought a collar and cuffs for myself as part of the healing process after he broke up with me. I consider my bondage gear to be part of my identity - no matter who I date or who breaks my heart, I'll still always have MY collar and MY cuffs and MY gag and MY rope. 
I've never received bondage gear as a gift from anyone because I've only had one failed relationship so far. If, in the future, I do receive something (such as a collar) from an SO, I'll consider it a symbol of my relationship with them. Depending on how close we are and how strong our relationship is, I'd even consider incorporating the item into my own identity.
Basically, my gear is part of me. It's a very personal thing. I bought it for myself - it's a part of me. It's similar to how some people view fashion as part of their identity.

I just offered my collar to my Sir. I wear it 24/7 (it's got a 'locking' clasp too) I wear it because I like knowing that to the world it's just a bit of jewelry, but to us it means almost as much as a wedding band.

I agree with what most of these women are saying, it really just depends on the relationship. But being collared is a very high honor and it can symbolizes being owned, like the equivalent of being married. I have two collars. One play and then a locking day collar :)
