excessive discharge

i've been getting discharge pretty much non stop since 6th grade. i'm now a sophomore in high school and have been getting my period since the summer between 7th and 8th grade, but super irregularly. these past few days i've been getting SO MUCH DISCHARGE. Like so much. today i went pee and looked down and there was a long, thick strand of clear discharge hanging from my vag. i had to use 4 crumples of toilet paper to get it all. i've looked up discharge before and normally the discharge i have is pretty normal, but i'm a little alarmed by this amount of discharge. is this normal, or should i talk to my doctor?
