Lunch with my pregnant sister, how to cope?

Question

This week my mom, cousin and I are having lunch with one of my sisters. My husband and I have been trying to become pregnant for several years (3). My sister has been married for 1 year and she and her husband got pregnant after trying for 1 month. 
​Originally this lunch was just supposed to be my cousin and myself . This morning I was informed that my pregnant sister is also coming to lunch. Any idea's/suggestions on how to deal with a lunch that is now going to be all about my pregnant sister?

Totally understand your pain. I've just started ivf and have a v young neice. To be honest I haven't coped that well with it and I've found it all very upsetting and have tried to avoid social situations like this but just take a deep breath, get through it and then just try and lick your wounds in private. Treat or pamper yourself, meditation, relaxation to help you get through things. 
​She may feel just as uncomfortable as she prob knows how hard you're finding things (unless you haven't told her). There is no ideal coping strategies to this but just keep going with your journey and I hope you get there eventually.

I lost my first pregnancy at 4 mos, and my sister got pregnant at the exact same time as i did. She was at the opposite end of the spectrum with an unplanned pregnancy and a bf who wasnt really into it. It was really tough and I supported her as best I could, but I flaked out on baby showers and going to the hospital, it was too tough. Nobody gets how difficult it is to talk about babies if they've never had a tough road getting pregnant. I don't know what to tell you, bc u will be seeing her at some point, so even if u feign illness you'll have to pay the piper sometime. My only advice is that maybe try to let them cluck about how glorious pregnancy and babies are for the first half, and then sway the conversation elsewhere. And have someone call u about 45 mins to whisk you away if u need a rescue. Wishing you luck ??

Just remeber at the end of the day you are two different people. She is still your sister and if it was the other way around im sure she would be happy for you.

My husband's step-sister just announced she's 5 weeks pregnant. They've been trying for only 3 months vs our 4+ years. His dad and stepmom are now super happy and grateful to be grandparents. This are the same people who didn't even come visit me when I was in the hospital for emergency surgery to remove an ectopic. I feel your pain acutely. Try to stay positive and think about your impending baby.

my sister is older and when I found out she was finally pregnant, I was relieved. I was so scared to get pregnant before her because I knew she would be hurt and jealous. now the baby's here

I think you should just tell her, "I am truly happy for you, but I am sad for myself. Excuse my moodiness."  She is your sister. She will understand. And if not, then take some time apart. She will always be your sister even if it hurts to be around her.
