Dark Brown to Dark Ash Blonde?

Question

I have dark dark brown hair with some blonde highlights, I decided last minute I wanted my hair to be a little lighter since it’s summer time. I went to Sally’s and bought Dark Ash Blonde color.

Now because my hair is so dark now, in order to go lighter would I have to bleach my hair first then put the dye in or would it work if I just put in the dark ash blonde dye in my hair and let it go lighter it self? 
I’ve never went lighter before so this would be a change for me.

going lighter requires bleach. Do a bleach wash (equal parts bleach to shampoo) this will allow your hair to process slower and cause less damage. (I've gone to school for this)

Yes, you have to bleach and honestly, it's better to go to a salon if you have a dark color trying to go for light. Even with a professional, it took a couple session before I got a very light color because he was trying to keep it from dying and drying out. 
Aside from that every month I dye half my hair blonde and I am naturally dark brown hair, I have to bleach it for a while and then dye. I cannot apply the blonde and get blonde

If you don't bleach it then it'll just get a tad bit lighter. All depends on your hair though I'd stay away from bleach or have it done professionally
