political opinions differ from S/O?

i was curious the other day on how many people's political views differ from their significant other and how it affects their relationship. do you & your partner share the same political views or have opposite views?

My husband is a Caucasian republican who lived a very privileged life. Our views are dramatically different. I'm Hispanic/Latina (among other things) and I am definitely not conservative. I'm a democrat, pro-choice, catholic (but I don't let a priest, the church, or the pope dictate my life or views!), and come from a hardworking orphaned immigrant family on both sides. My grandfather worked very hard to get a work visa and start the citizenship process for his wife and kids (they had 9). They never used any public assistance, he saved his money and bought a home in Venice, CA and sold it to buy 3 more properties - paid in full. His family lived in one and he rented the others. My family is known for being generous towards others. I'm proud of my roots. It can be difficult with my husband because he isn't always nice to people like waitresses for example and it greatly upsets me. We argue a lot but it's getting better. I like to listen and understand his POV. He's learning to do the same. It takes time. But, as I told my family so many times, I am completely in love with him. You don't choose who you fall in love with and while we are complete opposites it's love that is the glue that keeps us together. Marriage is work!

my ex and I had totally different beliefs. I mean, he wanted Trump in office and thinks he's doing a "great job." I'm not political. at all. so I would ignore it. its something we didnt talk about but him & his friend talked about it all the time. it got annoying honestly. one reason I'm glad he is my ex now lol.

It can work. I've dated a republican before. You just have to not take things so seriously together, and be able to debate without turning it into an argument.

Some, but he knows I'm usually right so he will have me fact check things he hears. Then we debate from a start of facts to form conclusions.

I could not be in a relationship with a Trump supporter. I think that it is a baseline necessity for me that the people in my life respect the humanity of other people.

My fiancé and I had very similar political views, but we do differ. We support different parties (though over the last 5yrs he's slowly moved over to supporting the party I support on his own). We can disagree on things without causing fights and we respect our differences. However, if he supported the liberal party and Justin Trudeau then we'd have a problem since I really can't stand the man. Thankfully, we can agree on the fact that he's not good for Canada.
