can you communicate still?

if your bf joins the military, can he communicate with you while he's gone? I saw one girl day she texts her bf every day while he's deployed. I'd that true? can you really do that? my bf wants to join and it would be so much easier if I could text him while he's gone

Depends!  I was in the Navy and when we deployed we could only email.  Cell phones don't work out at sea.  As for the internet...Our ship had very limited bandwidth and they blocked a lot of social media sites for security reasons.
But other branches have more options, depending on where/why a service member is deployed.  Some forward operating bases have multiple ways for service members to contact home.
Usually there is very limited if any contact during boot camp/basic training.  After that it's usually a bit easier.

Yes you can still communicate with them via text, calling, FaceTime, etc. 
Except when they're in boot camp, then you have to write letters.
