Getting my tongue pierced soon tips?

Question

So i have a nose ring, had a belly ring (it rejected i havent got it done again its been two years roughly) and also my ears are pierced (and stretched to an 8 gauge atm) 
So i am not new to piercings though my tongue is a different story. 
Any tips on how to clean, handle swelling, etc 
And also anything quirky they don't tell you about tongue rings?

I ate popsicles to help with the swelling, ibuprofen for pain, and alcohol free mouthwash for cleaning. Also do not drink alcohol. It can get infected.

I will say I've had my tongue pierced twice and both times the actual piercing didn't hurt but the healing process got me. The second time I got it done the guy did it behind my scar tissue I had from it being done the first time. That being said the further back the piercing is the more swollen it's gonna be due to your tongue getting thicker as it goes back. I would say just make sure they pierce to the side of your web so that doesn't get irritated. Other than that just eat soft food and Popsicles were my best friend.

This probably was the best healing piercing I've ever had got this when I was 18 (22 now) I have a Mc Donald's banana milkshake before and after and the swelling went down within like 3/4 hours never had to eat liquid it was so simple 😂 rinse you mouth with salt water

Liquid kids ibuprofen (scaled to an adult dose for me personally. the liquid helped to soothe faster than the pills), popsicles, soft foods like mashed potatoes and soup, saline rinses, and whatever you do DO NOT eat anything acidic or spicy like tomatoes, lemons, peppers, etc etc for the first month like I made the mistake of doing occasionally 😂 You might have an adjustment period while you heal where you wonder why you decided this was a good idea since talking and eating suddenly feel weird, I found the biggest cause of that feeling for me was the super long healing bar rather than the piercing itself. Once I switched to a normal length bar about a month and a half in it was a whole new world and two years later I'm still in love with mine.

To clean i used non-alcoholic mouthwash but for the swelling i ate ice. On the day i got it done i went straight from the piercing shop to get food and ate perfectly but from the second day i found it very hard and i ate sooo slow that half the time i gave up😂 to be honest, my tongue didnt actually hurt but it was the tongue web that ached because when the clamp was used it pulled my tongue a lot sooooo it was achy AF😩

Mine didn't hurt at all the day I got it done...so I was talking up a storm and showing it off. DONT. my advice is to talk and use your tongue minimally the day you get it done. It'll be so much more swollen and sore the next day. Also...after a while if you clank it on the back of your bottom teeth, it'll start to mess up your gums. You'll know what I mean once you've had it a while. Good luck.

Gargle sea salt water to clean it. Stay away from alcohol-this means both drinking alcohol and any mouth wash with alcohol in it. It causes scar tissue and it doesn't look all that great (it also burns obviously) youll also want to stay away from spicy food for like a week or 2 just because itll burn. Try rinsing your mouth out after you eat. You can swish some non alcohol mouth wash to helpkeep it clean. When i got mine i chewed/sucked/let it melt in my mouth on some ice cubes to help with any swelling. Try not to play with it and stay away from oral until its healed. You may have a lisp the first couple weeks but youll adapt. I now have a lisp when i take mine out because my mouth feels so roomy lol. Its also really good if your not a smoker for obvious reasons.

I didn't get a typical tongue piercing, I got a vertical labret, or a "scoop" 
It's where they pierce through the meat of your tongue sideways and put a u shaped bar in it so you have two balls going side to side rather than just one. It really didn't hurt, it didn't even pinch. I honestly had no idea he'd even done it. 
So salt water gargle is usually reccomended but the shitty part is you have to swish it in the part of your mouth with the taste buds. It's not pleasant. 
I'd reccomend stating away from lollipops, and hard candy in general for a few months unless you can keep it away from your tongue. It sucks to pull that shit off your tongue ring lol
