How heavy of a coat do I need in 35-40 degree weather?

Hi everybody... I'm moving from the south to a climate where it's rainy and the average temp in the winter is around 35-40 degrees F. I don't own a winter coat (oops) and I wanted to know how heavy a coat you guys suggest I buy. Thank you so so much!!!!!!😊❄️

Since you're not used to weather like that, id suggest layering, like a thing jacket with a slightly thick coat over it

if you're going to be there for a long time, I recommend investing in a good quality wool Overcoat. something that goes down to your knees at least. you don't want it to be too tight so you can layer sweatshirts underneath. but a good wool coat will last you forever, look great in any situation, and keep you really warm.

My only advice LAYER
Get yourself a good winter coat and put it over a hoodie. It's easier to take layers off than to not have enough. Take it from someone who has lived in Michigan her whole life. 😂

Get a good winter coat. I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life and I've always gone for practical over what looks good. I have a zero exposure coat that has a jacket inside a jacket. Itslike a 3 in one where the inside lining zips in so you have two lighter jackets or a heavy duty winter coat. North face and Columbia make the same types of jackets and also make ones that go down to your knees. I prefer down coats over anything else. I think they're the warmest. Getting a cute petty coat for nice occasions is always a good idea too but you'll normally end up wearing the heavy one till you get used to the cold.
