Super long birth story because I loved reading those when I was waiting for baby!
40+3 on a Sunday night. I stayed up and watched Sense and Sensibility because I love the British accents 💕I tried going to sleep around 1/1:30am. Contractions started as more cramping like I had earlier that day. Then one just felt different like they say. It was tight around the belly as well as mild cramps. I decided to start timing. I was unsure when to push start and stop because the waves were hard to pinpoint but eventually I just went with it and after an hour I noticed they were stronger and closer together but even when they started they were close together like 4-6min apart. They started to hurt a little more too. I didn't want to jinx it so I just expected they would send me home. We called the dr and headed in to hospital. Got to hospital @ 3:26am checked me and I was at 2. Walked around l&d; till 6am and was at 5!! 🤷🏼♀️😬😭. Contractions were painful as hell. Got epidural. Epidural guy was weird. Can't feel bottom half of body so it's weird and it made me worry about baby more. Kept dilating so they broke my waters at 8:20am. Baby had a bowel movement in utero but they said not to worry. I worried. They wanted me to rest because I hadn't slept. I drifted off a little. At 10:45am fully dilated! but we wanted her to move down the birth canal a little bit before pushing. Called it laboring down. Just turned to my side and used a peanut cushion between legs and relaxed. We started pushing at 11:30am. If you're like me and didn't do any classes, check out the pushing phase when you've had an epidural. I recommend at least knowing how it goes down. After an hour of not enjoying said pushing my temp spiked and her heart rate went up slightly and I was worried they would want to do a c-section but they said no but I seem to have an infection. I just keep pushing and was determined to get her out. Epidural started to wear off but not bad enough that I felt pain. But I could feel her moving down my canal it was so cool.
Baby came out and she was covered in stool (Meconium). They had to take her almost immediately across the room and clear her passage ways. I was so anxious because all I wanted this whole birth was to have her skin to skin for the 1st hour and try a breast crawl. But at that point I just wanted her safe. My husband watched them clear her lungs and after 15-20mins, I finally had her. I'm stuck on antibiotics and she has had a few labs but everything is looking good so far. I am feeling great and side note about the family visits: I was going to be strict on how/when family came because we have so much on both sides. I was so freaking proud of our baby and the adrenaline from birth, I have been totally cool with it. So for those that plan (like me) just know things change!
Last thing: I had a completely different Dr. deliver her! Apparently mine doesn't deliver on weekends if it's not his weekend to cover 🤷🏼♀️😂 it was totally cool. Lady doc was awesome.
Happy & healthy babies for all!
