How do I approach the situation, asking a guy if he would be up for it? Him and I barley have privacy to even have sex, let alone have messy period sex. Maybe it's just not time due to the situations?

Ask what he thought don't beat around the bush I never do it at the beginning at the end I do! Always say if you can walk through mud you can f*ck through blood 😂😂

You could either wait until you're on your period (my guy usually knows when I'm on it) & hint that you want to fool around. If he's into it, he'll go along. If not, he'll let you know and put a stop to it. Or you could just ask at any point when you're not on it. Just casually bring up the thought of it and see what he says. There's tons of topics on here about it. You could even "pretend" to read one and say "hey what do you think about this!?"
