Used car seat, Use it or not?

I have a infant car seat from my first child it is Safety First brand it was manufactured 6/6/2012 has a six year life. So it should be good till 6/6/18 I am due early January. We only planned on using the infant car seat for a few months because I have a convertible car seat that's really nice which does 5lbs-60lbs. I just didn't wanna go straight to it because I felt it would easier to use the infant carrier/seat. So I am looking for opinions, please.

I would use it, as long as it's in good shape and hasn't been recalled or anything.

When we went to get ours installed I asked what to do with the old car seat and the cop/nurses said that I could give it to a family member or donate it to the department- I don't see why you couldn't use one that's already been used by your own family, you know it's history and as long as there aren't any recalls I think you're all set!

I'd say use it! It still meets all the safety qualifications and you won't be using it the entire first year. I wouldn't want to go straight to a convertible seat either.  We nearly kept our seat for our 3rd, but it would had expired a month later so there wasn't much of a point and we traded it for a 20% off coupon.

They only tell you not to use "used" seats if you're getting them from someone else(in case they're lying about it not being in any accidents). It's perfectly fine to use your own car seat for a second child.

How can you be sure it wasn't in an accident? That would be my only concern!
