Epidural or no?

So I want to try natural child birth. I have tons of friends who talk negative about epidereals. They slow down the delivery, sometimes u still feel everything, causes future back pain, u can't walk at all the next day so you have to Have someone do everything for you and many more. I can handle most pain well.. Idk I'm really torn. What do you think. I'm due in July so I think I have time !

The fact that there is a chance I could be paralyzed for the rest of my life makes my mind up that I will never have an epidural no matter how bad the pain. Plus, I think being complete numb from the waist down would freak me out and just feel to unnatural. Apparently it makes it harder to push since you can't feel anything. Natural birth all the way for me but each to their own and no lesser thoughts to a women who does go the epidural route 😊

My first kid I had one the second was natural I will never get it again the difference in labor and recovery was so much better with baby #2

I had an epidural with my first child and it did not respond to my body well after I had my daughter. I had back problems for over a year after I had her in 05' but now my back is fine  but the doctors kept saying it wasn't the epidural causes back pain, they say these kind of things so their isn't a law suit against the hospital. I wouldn't have suied if I knew then but I was young and didn't know better. Anyways till this day I will never ever get another epidural.

I had an epidural and it was fine. I was up and walking within a couple hours after delivering. For me it didn't slow labor or cause any back pains. It was the right choice for me because I was admitted to the hospital with contractions 1-2 min apart and was only 3 cm dilated, so I knew there was no way I would have energy to push if i felt like I couldn't breather already lol. And honestly it helped me relax and made it smooth. I would recommend to just see how it goes, but don't beat yourself up if you decide to get it-you know your body and yourself best.

With my son I had one shot of morphine so I could sleep for a couple hours after my water broke and the contractions were so strong I stopped breathing a couple times cuz I was focusing so hard. Then I used hot water in the shower and laughing gas on the ball where I was passing out between contractions. This time since it will be just me and DH in delivery room I plan on having the epidural because I like to be able to remember my labour and delivery and Id like it to be a calm time and a relaxing and quiet time. My OBGYN is completely on board with it. She's very much make your own choice and I'll give you info if you don't know. I told her I wanted to remember it and it would just be me and DH and that I want a calm time and she said we can do that. So if everything goes as it hould I should be able to get an epidural cuz I know at a certain point if labours progressing so fast there's no point to have it done because it'll have no time to kick in by the time baby's already born lol.

I had an epidural due to bad induction pain.  But I was able to walk fine with discomfort from the delivery within 3 hours.  back pain I don't get any and my daughter is almost 3. Don't let them influence you. Do what you want its your body don't let them judge you for doing something you are comfortable with.

Unless you're going thru the pain of labor at the moment it's really hard to say For Sure what you would do. That pain is no joke. It makes a needle in the back, possible side effects (including, but not limited to paralysis and lengthened labor), and potential feelings of guilt/shame seem like a walk in the park.

Also investigate sterile water injections. My friend who is a midwife recommends them.... Helps with the pain but you retain feeling...

I had an epidural and my labor was only 8 hours long  I did push for an hour and half but that was mainly cause I had no strength I was in the hospital two days before I gave birth so I had about 3-4 hours of sleep total since The day I was put in, but I could walk as soon as it had worn off, the only reason I didn't want to really walk alot or do anything was because a child poped out of my vagina and was in so much pain from the tearing and swelling. As for back pain though I'd had two spinal taps before having an epidural (two years prior) so I had back pain anyways but I don't think it was from the spinals, because it was happening before that. Just do whatever you're most comfortable with you may decide now that you don't want it but you may not be able to handle the pain and decide you want one at the hospital, best of luck!!

I got an epidural and my labor was only 8 hours long and I only pushed for maybe 10 mins, I was induced so idk if that has anything to do with it, but I'm really glad I got the epidural because I was able to relax and not have to worry about the pain.
