my first pull & search 😳
I randomly decided to run away to the beach again today. I made it to ~Dublin county~ (yes, the cheap wine brand) and I got pulled over for "following too close". Which is bullshit, cause the asshole in front of me was waving her phone around (looked like she was recording herself) and would speed, then slow down, and then repeat. I kept trying to get away from her, but I swear our roads are like Mad Max out here.
He asked the usual like where I was from, where I was going, who owned the car, etc. Then this is where things got weird... he asked me to sit in his car while he filed paperwork and looked up my name/address/etc
I was SO nervous cause I've never been in a police car before. Like I didn't know this was a thing? Then there was a THUD that came from the BACKSEAT.... luckily it was a dog 😍. He was young, but he was sniffing at me and going crazy. He pawed at the officer through the holes too. Only a few solid, trained cop dogs have never responded to me. It's just me as a person, they always break character cause every dog runs up to me. I have "dog lady" tattooed across my knuckles for a reason 🤷🏼♀️.
He said he was gonna write me a warning and said I didn't have to come back for court, etc. then asked if I had questions and I repeated to be sure like it's all good no court, nothing? And he said I could throw it away if I wanted. I kinda laughed and said alright & thank you. I got out and he said my name, then said "can I ask a few questions if you don't mind?" I said sure. He said "you seem nervous.... is there any reason to be?"
I told him my situation with my ex pressing fake charges on me, and getting his multiple girlfriends to press fake charges/restraining orders/ "she told me she's about to kill herself" calls to police, etc. and I told him since I've been dealing with this since December, I've kinda got a reactionary thing going on when police get near me, because I instantly wonder what I'm gonna be accused of next.
He said "well, I wanna search your car".
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
I said okay... he called someone else to come by. He told me to stand in front of his car. He specifically asked if I had NARCOTICS in the car. On TV I usually see them more concerned about weapons than anything else. Or if they wanna see if someone is high, they ask a crazy question like "any dead bodies in there" to see what reaction they get.
The other guy that came was more conversational. He saw my student parking and said he was from Raleigh area too. The first cop had asked where my court documents where (I had mentioned I keep them on me in case something bad happens, it will be a hint of who I'm having trouble with) and I don't even think he looked through them. Everything else was looked at thoroughly.
When he was done he told me I was good to go, and complimented my organizational skills 😐.
Everyone has told me I fucked up and should have asked for a warrant first... but I'm just so emotionally numb with everything going on, I just wanted to get to the beach as soon as possible 😩😭😩.
I know I have resting bitch face, but do I have a resting opiate face I don't know about ?!? Like are officers trained to know what depression looks like???? I still have ptsd issues with men/people I don't know around guns, so that added to my naturally awkward/nervous nature. Jesus. Idk... I'm still kinda weirded out by this. Does anyone have any input from law enforcement? SHOULD I have asked for a warrant?
I don't even smoke cigarettes (unless I'm right at emotionally LOSING IT and trust me I wouldn't be making a 3 hour drive in that moment) so I'm just kinda insulted, kinda wondering if there is something more to this.
