Do you think a teenager with social anxiety should be forced to go to parties with massive crowds of people?

So this is stemming from a company party I was invited to that would have people of all ages going. It was made known that there would be about 450-500 people there. I overheard a coworker talking to her friend about how her 14 year old daughter cried because she had to come to the party. She said that she was using it as an excuse to be lazy and she needed to suck it up because "she's the mom and she said so" and "there will be people she has to be around whether she likes it or not." I honestly don't think it was fair to the daughter at all. What are your thoughts?
