child leash? helpful or humiliating?

most of us have seen them. a parent or caregiver walking the street/mall/public place with a toddler connected to a furry animal backpack leash.

I've never used them. I also don't live in a big busy city. we had NB twins and a 3 yr old. they went in a stroller most of the time. (one twin can't walk bc of a disability) and our 3 yr old walked beside us. (beach, zoo, etc=stroller) park, walk around town =holding hands.

should a child ever be leashed? I can see where it can make a parent feel more safe.

but then, on the other hand, shouldnt you be teaching your child The rules? (don't run. stay close, don't talk to strangers?) is a leash acceptable until they learn the rules? is there a place where its more acceptable? amusement park, out of town, water park, airport zoo?

would you or have you used one?

do you think its wrong to put a leash on a child? (or something "like " a leash, bc it doesnt go around their neck.

I think if I didn't know the area and my toddler wanted to walk, id use it, temporarily... until they were more "in tune " with the rules. maybe.

as far as a stranger grabbing them up, well, I say.... watch your kid. not the phone or checking your email etc. be present in the moment.be WITH your child. (but then again, parents of kidnapped kids, say it only takes one blink and they're gone) so, MAYBE a leash would help? is it safe today the leash is like another pair or eyes? or do some ppl rely solely on the child being harnessed? and thus, pay LESS attention? is it okay to use it when (and if) the child willingly goes to strangers? (you know that age where they say "HI! " to EVERYONE?! yeah, around then.

and boundaries should be set and started at a young age regardless imo.

sooo.... leash or not? have you ever looked at a parent using one and thought "that poor kid! it's a child not a dog"!

edited to clarify : in no way do I think parents who utilize this are bad parents! some parents have kids who like to run.quickly.

this tool can be definitely used for for the toddlers safety and like I already stated, "I'd possibly use one myself."

to debate the issue of using one, would help others to understand the pros and cons. since it seems to be nearly split. 45% of ppl say, NO. I WILL NEVER use one. 45% of ppl say, YES! We use it for safety. and the other 10% say, Meh... don't matter to me either way, might use one, might not.

But, there are debatable viewpoints where ppl say their beneficial and helpful vs. not needed and wrong.

*as always when debating a topic, one should keep an open mind and be receptive to seeing things in a different way.
