Birth Control Period

Guys I started taking birth control on July 22. I read that it was ok to start taking the pills whenever you wanted. My friend gets them from her doctor and she gives them to me. My period was due August 1st and it still came on that day even though I was taking the pill. Now my period has been on for 9 days straight when it's usually just 4.. should I go to the doctor?
