What is your stand/opinion on piercing a baby girl's ears and or getting your baby boy circumcised?
I'm genuinely curious cuz here(family and friends) we have polar views.

I'm ambivalent. But I have a suggestion for this thread! Could we discuss this without calling it child abuse and comparing it to female genital mutilation ? And without saying uncircumcised penises are dirty and diseased and gross?

I don't believe in doing either. Babies are beautiful, you don't need to pierce their ears or take off skin to make them so.

Its widely practiced in my culture to pierce a baby girls ears as a baby. Ill most likely be doing it so long at my SO agrees. 
Circumcision isnt commonly practiced for us, We chose not to. 
I literally give no fucks what someone else does with their children.

I don't care what other people do with their children but I will NOT be getting my son circumcised and won't be getting my daughters ears pierced until she decides herself that she wants them done

Its a parent's decision tbh. Not my business. My future son will probably get circumcised (who knows) and I'll probably have my daughters ears pierced. My ears were pierced when I was 6 months old or so and while I'm sure it hurt I don't remember it. Babies don't remember shit and they don't have a voice or an opinion but you make decisions for them every day like what they should wear and their name and shit like you can't say "wait until they can decide for themselves" for everything. Let the parents decide what they think is best for their child.

My mom waited until my 2 sister's and I were older to pierce our ears so that we could decide. I will be piercing my daughter's when she is a baby that way I can be the one taking care of them to make sure everything heals well. I will also be circumcising my son at birth. My sister didn't circumcise hers and ended up having it done later when he was around 10. Her husband ended up getting circumcised when he was in his 30's. It was extremely painful, more so than if done while they are babies. The recovery time was longer as well. At the end of the day it's up to you and your SO. Not your family. Do what you both think is right.
