Have you gotten a new pet while TTC?

Question

So I've wanted a dog for a while, but mainly because I want something to "baby" while waiting for our BFP. Has anyone gotten a pet to help cope with the TTC blues? Did it help? Have you experienced introducing pets to new babies? Also if you did consider it but decided NOT to get a pet, why? All suggestions or tips are welcome. TIA Ladies!

I had a puppy for about a year and a half  it she liked to jump on my stomach and only me. When my husband and I decided we were close to being ready to TTC we decided it was best to find her a new home. She has a fur sister now so it doesn't bother me. But regardless we didn't want to risk having her jump on me while pregnant. So I think it all depends on the dog. I wouldn't suggest a new puppy.

My 2 are going to be 3 this year. I'm TTC baby #1. I wanted them early so the older they got they calmed down. But not to old so the child can grow up with them. I did and I loved the memories of having a dog as a child.

I became so frustrated and sad ttc and failing and watching everyone around me including my sister and close family member get pregnant that I decided to get a puppy because I needed a distraction from it all... I can honestly say it was a great decision.. I have not felt as stressed and I can focus on something else besides ttc I tried the whole not thinking about it but let's be honest it's not easy to just stop

Me and Hubby were TTC but also had just moved into our house and wanted another dog because the dog we had was small and older and I stay home a lot by my self.  We ended up adopting an 8 week old pit/mastiff mix in November after I had a chemical pregnancy which helped me to move on. We found out in January we were pregnant again- which went to full term with a healthy little boy. It was a little difficult with a puppy at home because he needed training and a lot of attention and he also got a lot bigger then anticipated.(we were told he was a pocket pit so max 50ish pounds- now his is 110) but he is such a good dog and so good with our son and I'm sure he will be just as good with our daughter when she gets here.

I had two dogs when I had my daughter. one was 3 1/2 the other was only six month old. introductions were a process but both my dogs are amazing with her now. It wasn't that they were ever aggressive. But babies are so little and our dogs were so hyper it just took some time for them to learn the appropriate way to act around her.

I think it depends on the dog. Our friends had a small breed someone got them as a wedding present. When they had a baby the dog became aggressive and they had to rehome it to another friend with no kids and the dog was okay again. My brother got a dog right before his baby way born, the dog was older already, and they didn't have a problem.

honestly. I couldn't imagine her life without her pups. they area handful, but they are also her best friends and her protectors.
