As a kid with divorced parents, while the divorce is awesome and they are still friends, they were just a toxic pair and I'm better because they knew it was time to call it quits. 
Don't teach your kids to stay within a garbage relationship, teach them to seek out healthy positive relationships. So happy they split up.

Children would rather come from a broken home than LIVE in a broken home. If there's a high level of drama in you relationship, it's damaging to raise your child around that. Relationships aren't supposed to be that difficult. If you've given him the opportunity to make your relationship better and you're putting in equal effort to fix yourself too, then it's time to leave. I'd rather be alone and happy than with someone and miserable. And I'm sure your kid would prefer you to be happy too.

My parents divorced before I was one. My parents talk all the time and get along. I know them well enough to know they should NOT be together. God that would be awful. 
Hubby parents are still married and it's so uncomfortable. His father didn't want to watch him as a child and was violent. He has always believed that she have moved on long ago. I mean he rarely visit home bc it doesn't feel like "home". 
Your kids know when it's not working just like you do. If anything they want to see you happy and healthy.

It depends on whether they are a good parent. My husband is a good father and I would not deprive my children of him no matter what he did to me. The only thing that he could do to make me go is hurt them.

I'd only leave if I couldn't fix it. If you try and it remains crappy then yes leave because I'd rather not have my kids think an unhappy marriage is what love looks like. But I wouldn't just walk away without trying to solve our differences first.
