IUD? Has anyone had an IUD? Specifically the copper IUD.

What do you think of the copper non hormonal IUD? I really like the idea that it is non hormonal. Has anyone had an IUD? I really want to get more information on this because the pill is just not right for me.

My paragard was very painful and caused me to have very long periods with very heavy cramping. I switched to the mirena which is hormonal but it is localized so it doesn't affect my moods like the pill. I actually just stopped having my period all together. It was a delight. I haven't taken the pill in years as it severely affected my weight, moods, skin and made me really depressed. Mirena didn't make me feel like that at all even with the hormones. Again, I think because it is localized hormone treatment directly in the uterus.

I like my Paragard.  It hasn't led to weight gain, which was my problem with other methods.  I feel like it HAS made my periods heavier and longer, but have been told repeatedly that it must not be due to the device.  I've had mine in for 2 years now, though, and have been pleased. :)

I have had paraguard (the copper IUD) for the past 2 years and I love it. I definitely had worse cramping and periods for the first 3 months (the insertion wasn't all that fun either) but now I am back to normal and don't have to worry about taking a pill every day. So convenient.

I have used paragard (cooper) su ring 5 years now, is the near thing for contraception And the best part is that is doesn't affect your body. I have my periods regularly ?

I'm getting the mirena in a few days and it has a low dose hormone but it completely stops your period over time and last up to 5 years and you don't have to worry about it no longer working with antibiotics I think IUDs are a much better option

my body does not get along with hormones so I chose the paragard. Had it for 3 yrs. like it pretty good but caused heavy discharge the whole time. Seriously heavy for the first 6 months

I had Paraguard twice. I expelled it both times, once before my son and once after. That is extremely extremely rare. It was really painful getting it put in and really painful when I expelled it. Also caused horrible cramping and periods that lasted two weeks. Again, extremely rare. Most people have great experiences. I wish it had worked for me.

Yeah I had the mirena which I LOVED but that initial insertion was a BI$CH!!! I took mine out just recently because we are now TTC.  I will definitely get it again down the road, I had it for 4 yrs and can count how much spotting I had that entire time on one hand...

I had mine for 4 years and only removed it because we wanted to have another baby.  The insertion caused cramping for a few hours.  It was not intense or horrible.  I never had any problems at all.

I have the Paragard (copper) IUD. I love it. Wish I'd gotten it sooner! Insertion wasn't fun, but not awful. For me it was just like a really uncomfortable Pap smear but I have friends that said it was extremely painful so I guess it just varies. I hated condoms (I'm married so not worried about STIs) and hormonal bc killed my sex drive so copper IUD = awesome :) the only con is now my period is longer than it used to be (7 days instead of 5) but I think that varies person to person too.
