Circumcision complications

My son is circumcised and it was done very well. My OB is great and all the nurses commented afterward how it looked so good. Healed normal. But ever since, it adhered back onto the head and has given me heartburn. The normal skin gunk (smegma) keeps building up underneath where it has adhered and it's SO hard to get it out. As my son gets older and more active it just makes it increasingly difficult. I've been in to see the pediatrician about it more times than i can count and they always say it's normal and the skin will detach from the head of his penis on its own by the time he's 5. I check it almost every day and try to clean it best I can. Well today when I went to take a look at its so clearly infected. The edges of the skin there are pink, and there's so much gunk coming out, it's bad. We're headed to the pediatrician again in an hour; we're really lucky that they have weekend sick visit hours.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Way too much of my time and mental energy is spent worrying about his circumcision and wanting to make sure nothing happens to it so he leads a normal life. But I'm kind of at my wits end about it. I don't know what to do other than continuing to take him to the pediatrician for it all the time.
