What to expect dating a marine?

I have been in an unofficial relationship with him for about 8 months. He's going to be a senior this year and I'm going to be a sophomore in high school. I don't know the exact details about it, but I know that next July he is becoming a Marine. I feel like we are becoming more official, and I love him. I know that I'm young, but I just want to know what to expect or any tips when it comes to him going into the military. I know that I have time, but he's already doing physical training at an army career center. Any tips, advice, or what to expect of all of this? Especially since when he is going through this, I'll still be in high school for a bit.

If I could pick one thing to tell a new marine corps girlfriend, it'd be learn to be adaptable. Learn to be patient. There's a saying, "hurry up and wait", and you will do a looootttt of waiting. Like a lot. When you think you have a plan set in stone for when he's taking leave or when he's coming home from deployment or even when he's coming home from work, think again. You'll have about 3 more plans before you eventually go back to the original plan😂. You'll miss him more than you ever thought you could. But it is so beyond worth it. It will make you stronger as a person and it will make your relationship stronger. Just be sure this is what you want because he will rely on you. You will be his home and his safe haven, no matter how far from him
you might be. Remember that the marine corps always comes first. He won't always
call on time and sometimes he won't be able to call for weeks. It's tough, but it's rewarding as hell.

The comment that most stuck out to me from what the other ladies said is that the Marines will come first. This means any plans you make can and probably will change at any given moment. You might go days or weeks without talking. When you do talk, don't expect it to always be rainbows and butterflies. Lots of times he might be tired, sleep-deprived, hungry, frustrated and/or angry and it'll show and you just have to be understanding of the position he's in and the situation he's going through, even if you don't actually fully understand what he's going through.
In your position, I think you'll have the added hurdle of your age difference. Though it doesn't seem like a huge age gap, life after high school is vastly different. This time in your lives is wildly transformative so even though you guys are only 2-4ish year apart, you might feel like you're actually lifetimes apart, especially with him being in the military. Whatever hardships he's going through might be much bigger than what you're dealing with in high school. I'm saying this only as a reminder that while you might feel like what you're going through is the end of the world, it might pale in comparison to what he's facing so you just have to be able to put yourself aside and be there for him. Like the previous comments said: You are his rock. The military life is not for the faint of heart. You will have to be extraordinarily strong and independent. Take your time apart from him as the time to grow your own character and figure out how to be happy being by yourself because you'll probably be by yourself a lot.
Side note though, he should still be loving and be making an effort in the relationship. If he's an asshole every time you guys talk or he dismisses all of your problems as like dumb high school stuff, that's not okay! You are his rock but not his emotional/mental punching bag. Make sure you have a solid support system that can be objective about these types of things. Join military groups, these can be super helpful.
