Is it over or just wants space?

He told me that he doesn't know if his love for me is growing and asked for space to think about the relationship. Is he really gonna think of the relationship or is this just his way. of letting me know that it's over and he's letting me down gently? The waiting time is torture and it sucks!

Progress:

On the 2nd night of no contact i cant resist so i texted him i was hurting so much with the situation. He just responded with "that's how it will really feel."

On the 3rd night, i gave in again and i texted him if all the good memories we had were outweighed by my one mistake. He said no.

4th night, i asked him if we could talk on the 7th day. He said he still doesn't know.

6th day, its my birthday. He texted me "goodmorning. Happy bday love" i just responded with "thanks! :)" and he didnt respond again.

Today is our 7th day of no contact and it's our anniversary. It kills me not to talk to him especially on big events like my birthday or anniversary. 😢
