Do you/did you have a high needs baby (after 3 months old)?

Baby that doesn't like to be put down, takes lots of effort to put to sleep, doesn't really play independently, has to be carried all the time, etc.

I have three kids. I feel like most babies are like this. Independent play for an infant is not a realistic goal. Teaching healthy sleep habits doesn't really stick until 6-9 months depending on the child.

Right now you are going to be playing with your baby, holding her often, and instituting a sleep routine that won't always work. These things are normal, not necessarily high needs.

I do have a son who was very high needs though. He didn't sleep well until almost 20 months old. But like all children, he got there on his own time. It was exhausting, but supplying my clingy child with the love and affection he so obviously needed, helped turn him into a very independent child.

Provide for their needs as babies and it will pay off in the end. Motherhood is exhausting. Remember that all children meet their milestones on their own terms and in their own time. This includes things like sleep and independent play.

I wouldn't classify her as high needs, but yes she needs lots of attention and likes to be carried everywhere. I just bought another baby carrier yesterday and she loves it!

I think it's a spectrum and a baby is not one or the other. I don't think my baby is officially a 'high needs' baby, but she definitely likes to be cuddled and I still hold her for her naps. She does play independently and is an incredibly happy and smiley baby, which is why I think it's a spectrum and very difficult to label a baby as either 'high needs' or 'chill'.

Yeah the more he was able to move on his own though the less needy he was. Sleeping was still a struggle for a long long time. We used to have to bounce him on an exercise ball or else he wouldn't sleep.
