7 weeks PP/breastfeeding is bleeding normal?

Has anybody had this happen? Last week at 7 weeks postpartum, I noticed spotting and thought I was starting my first period since giving birth (vaginally). I have been breastfeeding this entire time so did not expect to start my period. The blood was bright red. I decided to use a tampon, which hurt btw, and after a few hours I tried to remove it which really really hurt. I had to take a bath just to be comfortable enough to remove it. Ugh. The bleeding was never heavy. Very light and only lasted for 3 days. At my 6 week appointment I was prescribed a vaginal cream cause I was concerned that I may have had an infection. I did that about a 6-7 days prior to the bleeding starting. I looked up side effects of the cream, and bleeding was not one of them.
