Why hasn't my period started yet

I just wanted to know what other reasons why my period hasn't started yet ?

When I was 17 mine dead just stopped for 10 months, and after that became normal again. My doctor prescribed a pill that could jump-start it (Prevera) but knew I was weary of trying it so gave me the option, and if came back naturally! It was weird. She said it happens a lot to athletic girls, and some girls' reproductive system shuts down with any type of stress.
