Cervical ripening pill?

Tonight I'm going in for the cervical ripening pill then pitocin in the morning if that does nothing, I'm a little over 41 weeks and 1cm dialated. Has anyone had this? Is there any side effects and how does it work?

I didn't know doctors did a ripening pill, im curious myself. I wonder if my doctor will do it if I haven't gone into labor on my own. My induction is scheduled for the 21st and I'd much rather go into labor on my own instead of having pitocin. Maybe I can ask for this ripening pill first

If we are talking about the same pill then I had to take it. They made me hold it in my cheek until it dissolved. It actually gave me contractions lasting 1 minute coming about every minute. I had 2 doses of this pill and then they finally started pitosin after the bulb, no idea the correct name for it but it looked like a water balloon, fell out of my cervix. They put it in to help dilate me.

In Australia normal gestation is up to 42 weeks, UK they let you go to 43! Is it normal in US to induce just after 41?
