IUI Planning

Lindsay • 34 years old, TTC #1

Hi all - I found out last night that our first IUI failed. We are incredibly disappointed, but the way I deal with it is to start planning for the next one. We did have one big success - I always have luteal phase spotting starting 5dpo and no spotting this month! So I kind of feel like now we are starting back at square one, with this past month being our first real shot at success. It seems to me that it would have been nearly impossible to get pregnant when my lining was shedding before implantation could even happen. Anyway, our last IUI, I was overwhelmed and my ultrasound was on the same day as my HSG. I didn't get as much information as I would have liked - but I know I had a lining of only 6+ the day we were told to trigger. We were told to trigger at 4pm and had the IUI the next day at 9;30am. A couple things: my lining and the timing both seem questionable to me. If my lining isn't thicker this month, should I cancel the cycle? If so, what is a good cutoff - 7? 8? Also, my ultrasound was on day 10, and my period lasts a week, so I only had 3-4 days for my lining to build. Finally, most people seem to have their IUI 24-36 hours after trigger. My RE swears that washed sperm lives several days, but everything I read says average of 12. So if I didn't ovulate for 36 hours after the trigger, there's a chance all the sperm was already dead! I'm struggling with being an informed advocate for myself while also trying to trust that the professionals know what they are doing. Any advice would be appreciated! TIA!
