Would you force your son/daughter to stop dating a boy/girl because they were suicidal?

This is kind of heavy but this happened to my friend's little sister. She had a boyfriend and when his mom found out she made him block the girl on everything and even switched his school schedule so they wouldn't have any classes. Personally, I would worry about getting the person help instead of telling my son/daughter never to speak to them again. I would tell my child they need to be there for them, even if they decide not to date anymore some time down the road, and I would be there for the person too. What about you?

Unless it was seriously affecting their mental state, no. When I was with suicidal people while having my own mental health issues going on, it drained me. It made things a lot worse, honestly. It often became a toxic relationship so if it was anything like that, I'd have a serious chat with their parents and pull my kid out of the relationship until they received help and were more stable. My concern is for my kid. While my heart really does go out to that child, I have to make sure my kid is well.

Wow great way to LEAD their partner to suicide. If I found out I'd be doing all I could to help the other kid and make sure they were safe.

If my child trusted me enough to come to me with this information, i would help them. I would help my child's partner. I would sit down with them and ask if they are receiving any help at home, and then make a plan from there.

My boyfriend walked in on me trying to kill myself.
And he knew his parents would try to make him break up with me, so instead he took away the bottle of pills I had and held me. That was it.
Yes me being suicidal made it hard for him sometimes. And now I worry that's why he's not always happy with me, but he assures me it's not because I was suicidal. 
He did a lot of things for me. He held my hair when I was purging. He knew what to do when I had panic attacks. He forced me to eat something. Hell, the man even kissed my scars once or twice.
So yes I'd let my son or daughter date someone who's suicidal because they can save someone's life. However I'll make sure they're okay and it's not hurting them.
He saved my life, so many times I can't count on my hands. There might be another kealey out there somewhere, and another Cameron who's saving her. 🤷🏼‍♀️ why would I let another kid die?

I don't think that would be my decision to make. I'd try to support and guide my child in that situation the best I could. And try to get the kid some help, but I don't think forcing them to break up is the right way to handle it.

So a while ago, a guy started dating my best friend. At first he acted normal.... but then, as time went on, he started saying he was going to kill himself and my friend and I (I was one of his besties) were the only thing keeping him going. He refused to get help, and would often tell my friend he would kill himself if she broke up with him. He became emotionally abusive to her and to me. Telling the both of us how orrible we were, me more than her, and then when one of us would retaliate, he would threaten suicide and then not respond to texts for a few hours. He was NOT in a place to date anyone. I would tell my kid that if their SO refused to try to get help, they would be forced to dump them. That kid screwed both me and my friend up for YEARS. I wouldn't want my child to go through that. And if that person really cared for my child, they would realize that they aren't in a good spot and would be likely  hurting said child.

No. I was suicidal and attempted three times. My boyfriend is the one who helped me through it and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be around anymore. I treated him like shit though so I understand the concern. His dad didn't like me because of how I (wrongfully) used my mental illness to manipulate and mistreat him. I'd want to be more involved as relationships like that can potentially be dangerous, but I would not make them break up.

so if i'm understanding the question right , you're saying your friend's little sister had a friend that was suicidal ? and your friend's mom made her daughter block the boy and switched their classes ?
i try not to judge other people's parenting skills because i know i would be a shit parent and everyone is only doing what they feel is best , but i don't think she took the right course of action . i think the right thing to do would to take this as an opportunity to teach my daughter a lesson about compassion and empathy . i would tell her to be there for her friend as much as she could handle , but to not allow herself to be completely emotionally drained either . i would also tell her if she ever got any of those thoughts that i would work with her and give her whatever she needed to her better .

No. And this is a very personal subject for me. I feel it would be my duty to get help for that person struggling and help for my child who would be undoubtedly affected by dealing with this.

I could never do this.
However I did stop talking to a friend once she started cutting herself.
It was only because she did it because a friend of hers was doing it.
Once she saw that it was something serious and not just something to do because someone else was doing it she stopped.
We talked about it and got her friend some help.
