moms: when do you start doing your child's hair?

so any mom can answer this but i'm mainly looking for answers from mothers of children with kinky 4C hair 😂 when is too soon to do your child's hair ? the shade room posted this really sad video of a baby girl getting her hair blown out and she looks to be about 3 . she's crying and squirming and asking for her mom over and over . personally i don't think kids under the age of 10 need anything done to their hair except braids or plaits . what do you think ?

I start doing hair maybe when they turn 10 months.
Nothing crazy just small ponytails to make it grow out. Nothing too tight either.
My daughter is 3 now and this is her current style.

My friend has 4 c hair and forever laments that her mom started doing her hair too early, it's really damaged now. Maybe just try nice protective styles that are heat-free until shes 5 or 6 and can choose? 
I don't have any personal experience with this though (obviously) so take everything I say with several grains of salt.

Baby girls with thicker hair hate getting it done. They'll act like it's the end of the world when it's not. I used to. Maybe she was just being fussy? I would be shocked if they were giving her a real, high-temperature blowout.

For the people that don't know, 4c hair is basically a hair type, I don't like to use hair typing because I have different curl patterns throughout my hair but to get a general idea of what your type is you can refer to this chart

I think just braids and pony tails for any kid really. I don't see why they mess so much with her hair, I'm sure it would look adorable in a bun or two piggy tails!

Heat on any child's hair that young is damaging. That's just my opinion in general.my friends daughter has straight/wavy hair. But her hair was so thin her hair line was really light so to compensate for that she would straighten her little girls hair and swoop it into bangs. 
I think kids are fine with ponies, braids, and for textured hair, whatever protective style is easiest. I mean they make hair accessories for a reason. Your child doesn't need a blow out..
That's a good way to get them nice and bald headed when their older😳🤷🏻‍♀️😫 
I wouldn't start until they ask honestly. I have 3c hair and my mom refused to straighten or put any heat on it till I was in like 3rd grade. And even then it was only when she had time to do it.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I keep seeing "4c hair", what does that mean?

I personally have silky straight hair that curls at the end 😕. But on my fathers side I  have fully black nieces who have 4a 4b and 4c hair I also have a niece that has 3a hair. I have braided, plaited, and done little ponytails to their hair. None have had their hair straightened or anything to alter it. Honestly I don't think a child should get it straighten until they are 13/14 🤷‍♀️. If I have a daughter she won't ever have her hair straightened out if she is lucky enough to have curls. My son has no curls except on the tail end and they are barely there. My nieces range from 7 months-12 years old on my dads side.

I started doing my older son hair at about 8 months. He had so much so I started training it. We decided to cut it all of at 21 months. 
If I had a girl i would start at the same age, and I would never do heat or a relaxer till maybe high school. I don't agree with half the things I see in little kids these days. so this is my opinion
