My (long) labor story. You have been warned! πŸ˜‚

Naomi

So my due date was 6th July which came and went, On the night of 10th July I thought I was heading for labor as I was sick all night, the next day i was so dehydrated I had to go on a drip in hospital, I was also having what I thought were contractions... turns out they hurt a little more than that πŸ˜… on the way home from hospital at 5:30pm I actually did start having mild contractions which lasted through the night, they werent so bad as to need to go into hospital though so I stuck it out and had a bath at 2am then dozed through them. I had an appointment with my midwife the next morning which I kept all the while still experiencing stronger contractions every 10mins, she did a sweep in a hope to speed things up.... let me tell you it worked! I was advised to bounce on my exercise ball and take paracetamol 😬 (like that does anything!) I was sat in the car waiting for hubby to get me some energy drinks as i was still so drained from puking the night before when my contractions took a step up, still determined to not go into hospital until necessary so we headed home to wait it out till I was 5 mins apart which was about 2pm, so we headed there and this airy headed midwife (who got me mixed up with a different lady!) told us we needed to walk around before I got checked to make sure I was in established labor, apparently they can only check you every 6 hours. (She offered paracetamol too πŸ™„) So we took a stroll around the hospital for an hour, feeling very silly stopping every 2 mins for 2 mins, people kept looking in sympathy which just made it worse 😬 we headed back and I was checked only to be told I was still 2cm! Waa! So she suggested I went home which was not happening as I was having such regular contractions and we lived 40 mins away! Hubby was a little concerned about driving me anywhere away from the professionals! Sooo he suggested we waited in hotel opposite hospital so we went in their till around 8pm when I couldn't take it any longer. I had to wait till 9pm to be checked but by that time I was 4-5cm! So I could go into Labor ward woohoo! We headed there and was given gas and air which was soooo lovely! Hubs said I was a different person once I was sucking on that, making jokes and not even bothered when they butchered my hands to get a canular in πŸ˜‚ I asked to go in the bath which was so relaxing, I was asked if I wanted to have the baby in the water as I was handling it so well, I said yes and felt really confident about everything, felt like mother earth! At around 1:30pm I felt the need to push so my midwife said just go with it, then another midwife came in and said dont push, (how confusing!) as I was only 7cm. (I didnt like second midwife as it felt good to push! Lol) So I tried for a while not to push which was really hard then I got asked to get out of the bath as the midwife was worried I was bleeding too much so I got on the bed for then the other midwife to say noo shes fine its only a bit πŸ˜¬πŸ™„ so I got monitored and because baby was so low down they had trouble finding her heart rate so they put me on a different monitor for half an hour. At around 4ish my water broke then midwife said it should pick up from here, which it did, they said at 6am i could start pushing (still feeling urge to push but trying not to) so 6am came and I pushed and pushed but nothing was happening, it felt awesome to push though! I tried different positions and all sorts, I was getting so tired at this point, I asked for some more pain medication to help me as I was struggling, they said as I was doing so well to try paracetamol on drip then see how I was, (stop with the paracetamol already!!) so I agreed and after it went through I asked for something stronger immediately! So I got some sort of morphine which made me feel weird but helped a bit, so I continued pushing but still nothing, at around 7:30 a dr came in and said that the baby had turned its head to the side and thats why nothing was happening, he tried to move babies head but he couldn't he said I could push for another 15mins and If nothing was happening he would have to take me into theatre for a forceps delivery and possible C section. So I pushed and pushed again but nothing, then it all seemed to get a bit hectic and all nurses and drs came in to get me ready for theatre. They whisked hubby off to get scrubs on and brought me into theatre, I sat on the edge of the bed for my spinal block trying to stay still with contractions, once the block was in it was heaven!! I remember saying, everyone should have a baby this way! After that I think i dozed until they told me to push, I was so confused as I couldn't feel anything below my chest! So i just scrunched my face and 2 'pushes'

later our daughter was born at 8:35am on 13th July 2017 weighing 7lbs 7oz. She was slightly shocked so she had to have some oxygen, but once checked over she was placed on me with the biggest eyes you've ever seen. Hubby was blubbing and so was I, we just couldn't believe we had a little girl after being convinced it was a boy! After a very eventful 39 hours we had our gorgeous little girly; Violet Elanor πŸ’œ Labor was nothing like I imagined I assumed it would all go to 'plan' but I did it and I survived, and I have my beautiful baby girl as my reward 😍
