Shaken baby: attempted murder?

Ni

My friend's family is going through a lot this month. It's the anniversary of the death of her 3/4 month old son (6 years) this month. And about 8 days ago, my friend's sister's daughter was shaken by her baby sitter. Baby Autumn was shaken so hard, when police found her she was breathing but unconscious. This happened in Medford, Oregon. Autumn was flown to the children's hospital in Portland. She stopped having seizures starting Tuesday, so doctors decided to take her off her anti-seizure meds and wake her up. She opened her eyes today, finally. And a few hours later, her breathing tube was removed. She's fighting so hard, but she has permanent brain damage from this. Doctors are very hopeful that she will survive, but warned her mother that she won't be the same baby anymore.  She does for sure have permanent damage in the back of her brain and cerebellum on both sides. She also has some frontal brain damage but not sure to what extent.

I cannot imagine this ever happening to my daughter. Mine is only 5 months,  Autumn about 8/9 months I believe.

The monster who did this to this beautiful baby girl, was a family friend. She was trusted and abused that in the worst way. Police are charging her with assault. In my opinion, she should be charged with attempted murder! Autumn will never be the same. What life she would have had, was replaced with a much more difficult road ahead.

Several people in our community feel the same, while others are still in disbelief that the sitter did this because "she's a good person."

Opinions on the charge?
