Why wouldn't you? Whooping cough is a real concern with newborns. They don't have the means to fight it off if they get it...

The question is asking if you'll (the mom) get the vaccine during the third trimester just to clarify! Not whether you'll vaccinate your baby with it :) It is a vaccine against Bordetella Pertussis, a bug that causes "whooping" cough, also known as the "100" day cough. It's currently recommended for mothers in their third trimester so that the moms immune response to the vaccine can be transferred to the baby while in utero and grant the baby some protection from this bug when they are born. When little infants get sick with Pertussis it can be too much for their systems to handle and can cause breathing difficulties leading to feeding difficulties, all the way to apnea. Of course the vaccine is a personal choice, and I am not saying everyone should or should not get vaccinated. You have to look at your personal beliefs as well as what risks you're willing to take. I just wanted to clarify the thought process behind this vaccine being given to moms.

I think statistically the benefits FAR out weigh the negatives or chance of something going awry. I also could never live with my self if my un vaccinated  baby/child passed on something life threatening like this to another baby/child. Let alone losing my own baby due to something preventable. It's a no brainer for me.

Im in Australia and a newborn died a few weeks ago from whooping cough , I'll defiantly be getting this ! (Gives baby a bit of the vaccine to help prevent it first few weeks of life) 
Not going thru all this to have my little man die !

I will be having the pertussis/tetanus booster in my third trimester. It has just started being offered to Australian women to offer some protection to baby before they are old enough to have their first vaccine. I think I'll have to pay for it, but seeing my eldest son goes to school with unvaccinated children, it's a needle I'm very happy to receive to protect my baby.

I just looked this up and they won't get this vaccine until they're 12.
