Breastfeeding?

I'm thinking of breastfeeding but using a breast pump. I'm not sure if to get formula too. Help! First time mom

I would have some on hand, esspecially if you are only pumping.  You will know if baby wants more milk then you have and then you can break out the formula.  The other posters are right, this is the more difficult way.  But if it is what you want to do, there is no harm in it.

If you are only planning to pump rather than letting baby nurse, you're probably going to get sore. That's harder on your breasts, and you can't always get as much milk out with a pump as your baby can.

If I actually get any milk this time I'm going to do the same, exclusively pump. I hate breastfeeding, it feels disgusting to me. I am totally pro breastfeeding and breast is best, but it gave me nervous ticks. At certain points I just wanted to get him off me, it just made me so uncomfortable.

I would have formula on hand, but pump first, try power pumping so you hopefully get some extra. We had those tiny 2oz premixed similar bottles and they were a god send. Get an 8 pack before baby is born to have on hand, that will last you through a night and then you can send someone out for more if you end up needing it.

Pumping sucked for me. It took for-ev-er. It was hard to nurse at first because baby's mouth wouldn't fully open but I toughed it out. Once I got the hang of it after about two months then I loved it :) still going strong with my now 8 mo. old! Definitely bf my next baby :) it's the greatest experience ever.

I have a friend who only pumps...it's a lot easier to breast feed...but if your going to exclusively pump that's better than no breast milk...i found that i had a hard time getting much milk from pumping (baby can get more milk than a pump can) good luck!!!

Can I ask why you're thinking of pumping instead of nursing?
