Glucose tolerance test questions? Please help!

When I was pregnant with my son (11 years ago) in NYC I had to go to the hospital for my glucose tolerance test. I was told that I had to fast after midnight. There they took my blood and then had me drink the solution and an hour later after drinking the solution they drew my blood again.

Three years ago in NYC my endocrinologist sent me for a glucose tolerance test because of suspected hypoglycemia. Again, I needed to fast and go to a lab. They drew my blood, had me drink the solution and then drew my blood again an hr later. They drew a 3rd time an hr after that.

Now I'm 26+2 pregnant with twins and living in Florida. At my. Bi-weekly appointment my doctor gave the glucose solution. He told me not to eat 1 hour prior to testing. He told me then to come to his office 45 minutes after drinking the solution at home and they will draw my blood exactly 1 hr after I drank the solution. This seems odd to me?

My appointment is at 10:15am on Thursday which means I need to drink the solution at 9:15 and arrive there by 10. I wake up at 7 to get my son ready to school. Though I usually have cup of half caff coffee and breakfast as soon as I wake up I am very nervous to do so. But also if I don't eat I get very nauseous.

Has anyone else been told that it's ok to eat but not an hour before drinking? Also, they wont be drawing my blood prior to me drinking so what will they have to compare too? I normally have low blood sugar to start (hypoglycemia).

One more thing and I hope this doesn't sound silly. I am very sensitive this pregnancy to sugar and anything sweet (other than fruit). If I eat cakes, cookies or ice cream I throw up. I also need anything I drink to be ice cold. I know I absolutely need to take this test so would it bad if I drank this solution over ice?

What was everyone's experience with taking the glucose tolerance test. I would hate to fail it and then have to take the 3 hr one.
