So we have a two week old newborn. We were intending to get together tomorrow with a couple preteens we've been mentoring to let them meet him. But I just heard from one of the kids' moms that they've been infested with fleas and cockroaches. She said it was bad enough she had to throw out all their furniture (but she might be exaggerating). Then she said "I've had the people come" which might mean exterminators? She's confusing to talk to.

I've never really dealt with fleas or roaches so I don't know how to react. Should I postpone our meeting with them? Should I change the location so we take them to a restaurant or something instead of bringing them into our house? Or should I not worry?

Do fleas or cockroaches travel on people? Would I be risking getting my house infested, or getting my baby bitten? I really really want to avoid any situation where I'd need to put pesticides into my house with my newborn living here now.
