Early ultrasounds?

Why in the US do you all get your ultrasounds so early? Here in the UK You have to wait until you are 12 weeks 😩.

I'm in the US and my first ultrasound isn't until 12 weeks. I know some people who have lied and said they didn't k ow when their last period was so that they could get an ultrasound sooner.

I'm getting mine at 6 weeks because I'm 33 and have had 2 miscarriages and an ectopic.

I am in the UK and get mine at 6w 5days (=tomorrow) because I had a miscarriage two months ago and now some nasty cramps. Otherwise I would have had to wait. They want to exclude an ectopic. Quite a scary feeling to know it can go two ways tomorrow! Wish me luck!

I've read that it is becoming more common to have a scan around 7 to 8 weeks because there is some research that has shown that   this early on is the most accurate for dating scans and EDD. Also these early scans rule out ectopic pregnancies which can be life threatening. Between 11 and 13 weeks or so there is a scan called Nuchal Translucency scan... this scan check for down syndrome risk and some heart defects. I am surprised you aren't getting the NT scan in the UK at least. I think maybe there is also difference because we don't have universal healthcare so the docs here can bill these private insurance companies more money and then that becomes the standard of care. In the US, if you can argue that something is medically necessary it's paid for by insurace, so I think there is a bit of padding of the pockets going on, IYKWIM.

I'm in the uk and due to a history of miscarriage I will have 1 every 2 weeks from 6 weeks which is tuesday but due to my history it can go one of to ways and doesn't make me feel better I just hope this one sticks I'm just trying not to think about it to much xx

I'm in the uk and I've had four scans. I'm 8 weeks. I paid privately for two and the others were at a Bleeding in Early Pregnancy clinic. X

There is a risk with everything we do ladies. take a look into the history of ultrasounds and you will see how they are largely unstudied for their safety.
