Cytotec for induction not FDA approved!!??

Question

I am being induced Friday and they want to use cytotec instead of cervadil but from what I am researching, it isn't indicated for induction or approved for use in pregnancy. Thoughts??

I just got induced with cytotec today and my experience couldn't have been easier honestly, I'm a FTM and had it inserted at 8:30 a.m contractions really started hitting at 11:30 I went from 2cm to 6cm in 2 hours got my epidural by 12:30 and then progressed from 6 cm to 10 cm in about 2 hours and then my baby girl was here! And they only inserted half of one pill. Everyone expected my labor to be 12-18 hours but she was born at 5:07 p.m. It worked really well for me, hoping your experience goes good as well!

I'm in the same situation. I had done research on cervidil and felt comfortable using it then my Dr said he uses cytotec. So I did research on that as well because that didn't sit well with me since it's not FDA approved. There isn't much information out there other than studies and horror stories. From what I understand it's not FDA approved because doctors have been using it for so long for induction etc without approval that no one is seeking approval. I am likely going to be induced with it next week and I think it will be fine. One benefit is that they dose it every few hours so if it works they can stop. Not sure why doctors prefer it over cervidil though, cervidil sounded pretty decent to me.
