Would you give your Ex a birthday gift?

My ex boyfriends birthday is coming up soon and I was wanting to get him a small gift. Just thought it would be a nice gesture of my part, and he recently joked about what I was going to get him. We continued to talk a became friends, but I probably no chances of getting together again. 
Just wanting to know if I should or not, or what y'all would do personally.

it's nice that you two are still friends but buying a gift makes it seem like you're still interested in more.

I personally wouldn't, but that's probably because I'm not much of a gift giver anyways, and I'm also not close with my ex. Haven't talked in years. If you have a friendly relationship I don't think there would be any issue in that?

I've done this before with an ex that was more of a friend...it wasn't a real gift though, it was more of an inside joke/sentimental thing. I wouldn't be able to really explain the inside joke part without getting too wordy, but we lived about an hour from each other and I mailed him a bag of cooler ranch Doritos. Years later when we were hanging out at his place I found them and the card I sent him. I was like OMG! You are such a loser 😜!

I got a friend a Christmas gift last year, we have been friends for 10 years though so it's been a long time since we dated and it wasn't a serious relationship anyway. I've been with my wonderful boyfriend for 8 years now and couldn't be happier. It really depends on wether you class this person as an ex or just a friend.
