Taking out Nuvaring during sex?

Hi ladies, I've been wondering the answer to this question for a while and can't seem to find it anywhere online. The official info for Nuvaring says:

"If you do remove the ring for intercourse, do not leave it out of the vagina for more than 3 hours in any 24-hour period."

Does this mean no more than 3 hours every 24 hours, or no more than 3 hours in the entire 3 weeks you keep the Nuvaring in?

To be on the safe side, I've been taking it to mean 3 hours for the entire duration. I have a really shallow vagina, so there's no way to keep it in during sex - it'd hurt me more than my boyfriend. And we have sex pretty offen, so 🙃 Any help would be appreciated!
