Would you be okay giving your child the same name as a second cousin you never see? We love the name Madelyn but aren't sure because of this!

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated! The second cousin's name is Madalyn. We live in Canada and she does not. I have always loved the name before I met my husband. We liked the spelling Madelyn ( because Lyn is tribute to my mom) but wouldn't be opposed to Madeleine ( but we want it to be pronounced Ma-de-Lin)

why not ? Even if its someone you saw often i dont see a problem . if its a name you absolutely love then its the name meant for your daughter and no one can telk you differently . spell it how you want to aswell. this is your baby girl.

I think it's a ok. My first cousin, whom we never see (semi estranged) has a daughter named Ellie and I was going to name my daughter Ella. Never gave it a single thought.

I am naming my daughter the same name my cousin named his daughter. I actually had no idea until we were dead set on the name. Plus, I haven't seen this cousin in over 15 years.

Yes we actually chose the same name for our girl that my niece has, but we don't see this particular niece at all and our daughter will most likely never meet her... I'd say go for it, either way they're not the only people in the world with that name right?!
