I'd let her know that if she's being sexually active that she can come to us and always has options for birth control if she feels she wants it. I would tell her sex is a very important and emotional thing between two people who care about each other and if she's ready for that that she needs protection. I would never want my kids to ever feel like they can't come to me with that kind of stuff and risk pregnancy just because they were too scared. That goes for a daughter or a son

Absolutely! Teens are going to have sex with or without your permission. I'd much rather my daughter be protected and prepared. So I plan to keep the lines of communication open so that she feels comfortable talking to me about it.

I wouldn't force it, but if my child wanted it I would be supportive and help her get it. Either way I'd have a discussion about safe sex, respect, and consent with my teenage children of either sex.

I was not "put on" it, but I did agree to go on the pill at 15 because I kept missing school on the first day of my periods. It was my mom's idea and I'm really glad she suggested it because it made my periods easier. I was really glad that when I decided to have sex at 17, I had already been on the pill for almost 2 years.

My mom always told me that if I was even thinking of being active I needed to come to her to talk about options. I have always been shy about the topic and never wanted to talk about it. I wasn't sexually active until the summer before my senior year, and even then it was more pressure from my bf at the time. I went to her before and asked for bc for my period (which wasn't a lie because I've always had very heavy periods) but I also knew that I wanted to be prepared long before I was going to be sexually active. I know that the only reason I asked her for help was because she was so understanding yet still clear about what a big decision it was. I know I'm not a parent, but I think that as a parent that is how I would want to handle the situation. It helped me out a lot but also made me make a responsible decision

My sister was put on it at 15 to see if it would shrink her ovarian cyst. It didn't and she needed surgery to remove it. She turns 16 today and she's still on it. She's afraid to stop taking it and the effect it'll have on her. Plus she enjoys not getting a period. She's not having sex. She's super open with me. She's been curious in the past and asked questions but she's made it very clear she's not ready for that just yet. Just had a lot of questions.
