my mother in law has been watching the babies for me while i work because we are struggling on one income. my partners currently on strike at work and we have lost a lot of income the past couple weeks. we are behind with rent even. his mother asked for money to watch her grandkids which i guess is fair enough and we agreed on $50 a week. anyway, moneys tight, she got her $50 last friday and today her partner (who is a seedy old prick) said "youre short $50 last week, we want $100 a week". and i looked at mil and she just stared at me like "yeah we do".... i said um well we are 2 weeks behind with rent right now and probably gonna be out on our ass so you will have to wait" and hes like "oh okay". i told my partner and he said " wtf $100pw to watch ur grandkids sounds fucked if she agreed to $50" and now im wondering what the point is in even working

My MIL would NEVER charge us to watch our child. IMO that's messed up. My family has always been tight-knit and we'd do anything for one another without feeling the need to ask for $$.

$100 is cheap for two kids but I see where you're coming from. You would expect a grandmother to want to watch their grandkids for free or at least have a little more understanding on your situation. They also could've given y'all notice on upping the price and not just telling y'all on the spot. Could YOUR family watch the babies??

I think it's bullshit that a grandma would charge to watch her grandkids. Like that is a privilege for many grandparents. If hubbys job is striking and the in laws are being this much trouble maybe your husband needs to not physically be at the strike and watch the kids while you work.

What an awful grandmother. My nephews have 3 sets of grandparents (on top of all their aunts and uncles) that would all jump at the chance to get to watch them for a day. I would suggest asking another family member if they could maybe help out. And your husband needs to find a new job. You guys have a family to support. And as you've explained, it's not all that smooth of sailing right now. Good luck to you ❤

My mil would never ever ask us to pay for her watching our daughter 😳 So I find that strange.. but $50 is a great deal on childcare regardless. 
I want to send my daughter 2 days a week just to socialize and it's $154 per week for just those 2 days 😱 (so in other words I'm not going to be sending her 😂)
However, her upping the price when she KNOWS your financial situation.. just seems greedy and off putting 🤔 but you won't find child care for that price anywhere else so you gotta do what you gotta do to stay afloat. At least they are still watching.
I would definitely be upset though but this situation isn't forever and I'm sure you guys will be back on your feet soon 🙏🏼

She shouldn't be charging you at all. she should want to help out for the sake of family and getting to know her grandkids. that's shitty. if you have any other reasonable options I would stop going to her
