How do you save money.?

Me and my husband bought our first house back in September and surprisingly we've been okay at paying the bills. Now everytime we get money we blow our whole check on clothes,supplies and food. And will go a week where we're "poor". Eating Ramen and finding change for gas.  We go so long without money that whenever we got money, we spend it on clothes,supplies and pointless stuff. Well, I start my job tomorrow and I told him when I get paid, I'm putting some back. Even if it's $20 every pay check. We've tried the whole "I'm going to put it in my account and never touch it". But we always get it back out. Any tips on how to save money? I'm tired of being broke but I have a bad habit of spending money. 😶😣

I have my bank auto pull a certain amount the morning after I get paid. I have two separate checking accounts and no debit card for my "fake savings" account. I don't allow myself to pull money from it unless it is something we have planned for (like redoing our floors).

Limit eating out and eating processed foods; make meals at home and from scratch as much as possible. Eliminating meat and canned/frozen items can also help. Buy dried beans, rice, lentils, and grains. Make your own frozen vegetables and pizzas and things.  
Only buy clothes when necessary. If you don't really need it, don't buy it. And even then, try to purchase clothes and accessories second-hand if you must buy something new. 
You can automatically send money from your paycheck to a separate checking account. 
Don't go to the movies or the mall or do other superfluous things that you don't really need to be doing. If you need a movie night, rent from redbox or purchase a movie from a used books/movie store. If you need a date night, do something like hiking or volunteering at a shelter or food pantry. 
Most things can be purchased second-hand. Use a date night to find the best local second hand stores in your area. Spend more quality time together; invite friends over for a potluck and board game night, walk around your neighborhood and meet neighbors, join a meet up group for volunteer work or developing a new hobby (that costs little or no money, like writing or drawing or foraging). 
Use cash as much as possible and limit the credit card to emergency items  We had to buy a new washer and dryer and didn't have the cash for it immediately so we found a deal for a pair on sale and 36 month no interest financing. So we bought it on credit. But we use credit as little as we possibly can. 
Look for items at home that you don't need and can sell. You'd be surprised what you don't need and can make money from.

I'll tell you what has worked for my hubby and me for years now. We set an auto withdrawal from checking to savings on a weekly basis even though we get paid every two weeks. We think of our savings as money we're paying ourselves and that's always priority over anything else. Our savings account is not linked to an ATM/debit card so the money isn't easily accessible. The amount that you save isn't as important as the habit of saving. It is a lifestyle choice. You already have the right idea by wanting to save, now you have to turn it into action. Maybe if you attach an initial goal, like a vacation, it'll keep you motivated. 
Pay yourself first! And then figure out the rest of your expenses. You'll soon realize new clothes aren't necessary as often. Good luck! ✨

If you have it on you, you'll spend it. If it's in your account you'll spend it. I used to successfully take an amount of $, usually approx $20 & put it in my jewelry chest. That helped a lot. Good luck
