What should baby be eating?

Question

Our formula fed baby started purées at 4m. He still does those, but seems super interested in our grown up food (snacks his lips and mimics chewing). How do I start this?!

I'm interested in this as well - exactly the same situation as you & last week we started more "normal" food. Toast, sandwiches, cucumber etc. I've stopped again this week as the gagging literally gives me a heart attack!!! Apparently it's totally normal for them and is them learning how to swallow and chew but iys so scary! My sister in law said her little girl gagged on everything for a good week and a half and then all of a sudden just cracked it. I just don't know if I'm bravs enough ! So scared of her choking!!

My son does great with puffs, but can't stand stage 3 baby foods. He has a horrible gag reflex. I am having a hard time with foods he can eat and pick up himself that won't make him puke.

I started my son on regular food at 6 months. It took a few months of learning, first spitting almost everything out, then eating a little. We're 2 months in now and he eats everything we eat, just no salt. Foods he can pick up and hold in his hands are good, like fingers of zucchini, meat, fruit. I also make some small pieces he can eat on a spoon or from my fingers.

I started with bananas and avocados. Cut them in small pieces and she loves it! Now I progressed a little and she loves green beans and carrots steamed. Loves mangos cut up. And I started giving her meat. I make meatballs cut up and she loooves them! Oh and a great breakfast option is banana pancake. Mash one banana with an egg, whisk it up and make pancakes. It's soft and easy for her to eat. I just cut them up. That's basically what she eats all the time. And I still do purées. She's 8 months and I started the banana avocado at 6 months.

If the food is soft enough for me to mash easily in my mouth without using any teeth, it's soft enough for him. I was surprised how good he is at chewing. I also gave him the gerber snacks. that look like cheeto puffs, he LOVED those.  Ive done baby bird style to soften a piece of food a little bit before i give to baby, when he was first learning.

I started out by giving her bites of banana, avacado and scrambled egg. I would give her little bites of fruits and steamed veggies but while I fed them to her, squash is a good choice because it gets really soft. When I noticed her getting really good at chewing and she felt more comfortable that's when I started letting her feed herself.

Just start on some soft foods. My daughter loves avocados and sweet potatoes. She has had French toast, pancakes, mashed potatoes, soft pasta, green beans (a favorite of hers), beans, rice, and more.

Same here! She wants to pick up and feed herself. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong on the food. I make sure it's soft enough but she keeps gagging and doesn't seem to able to swallow.

You should ask his dr but you can start with giving him mashed potatoes avocado things that are small enough he wont choke and that are small bites
