Fraternal?

Hi I'm 11 Weeks and just found out we're having twins! My dr said he can't say if they are fraternal or identical but he was sure they Each had their own placenta. What do you guys think? All of this is so new to me. I would think there is a good chance they are fraternal but as far I know it doesn't run in my family. Thanks.

I am having Mo/Di twins which means they are identical and share the same placenta !!! More risky than fraternal, but still just as exciting ! Congrats ! I'm 14 weeks and 5 days and find out if I'm having boys or girls September 9th (my birthday) !

Your twins are definitely fraternal... as of right now 😉 The babies are entirely too seperare to be identical, the image I posted is an ultrasound of my identical twins, as you can see they are VERY close together in the placenta/ sacs, and for identical twins the membrane of the sacs is very thin where as fraternal twins it's thick. As I said though... as of right now your twins are fraternal, if you find out they are g/g or b/b you still have a chance of your fraternal twins being identical! In which case, you won't know until they come out.

so they are didi which means separate sacs and separate placentas - the lowest risk twin. regarding fraternal or identical - you won't actually know this for awhile. if you find out gender while pregnant and you find out it's a girl and a boy then you know it's fraternal (separate egg and sperm) for sure. if they are the same gender, you actually have a 20-30% chance of them being identical. fraternal twins always have separate sacs and placentas but identical twins can have that same structure (didi) if the egg split really early in the process. if you do have the same gender and want to know if they are identical or fraternal, the only way is to do a DNA test after they are born

On a side note, Is anyone totally shocked after finding out? I have no family history, did no IVF, I'm 25, and petite and short. 5'3". What about you girls?

Congratulations ... I'm in the same boat .. Im 18 w as of tomorrow and I still don't know if I'm having fraternal or identical twin babies, until they are born or we do a test.. I will find out what I'm having on sept 6 .. one more week away.. I'm so excited it 🤗.. and fraternal twins do not run on my family but identical girls do so will see ...

Just updating to say that at my 13 week scan I was told they are almost positively fraternal. The sonographer looked at my ovaries and saw that I had two follicles on my left and some cysts left over, nothing on the right. So that was an interesting discovery!
