What age did you start tummy time?

I have a playmat for my baby and he is fine on his tummy and can lift his head briefly and turn it. I'm terrified of tummy time because of suffocation. I know it's good for them but I don't want to start it until he is much older (currently a month old) and I think when he is 3 months or 5 months I might be okay with it?
I had someone tell me he needs to start it now since his head movement is advanced and he needs to keep practicing.

Day 1!! If it makes you more comfortable you can have him do tummy time on your chest.

We started at day 1 really. Tummy time can even be considered by the baby laying on your chest. The risk of suffocating is there if u aren't supervising. Clearly if child can't lift and look around you shouldn't be doing it.

You should start tummy time from the beginning. By 3 months he should be lifting his head already pretty steady, you don't want to wait until then. You can do tummy time at the same time as skin to skin by laying him on your chest and reclining back a little this is how I did it while he was only a few weeks old. Then you can always use a boppy pillow if he doesn't seem comfortable completely flat. My LO has a big belly so this is what I do :)

Absolutely do not wait until three months. That's far too long. Watch him the entire time and start doing it now for 2-3 minutes like 2-4 times a day when baby is alert.

You're supposed to be supervising tummy time so I'm not sure why he'd suffocate? Many doctor tell you to start at around 2 months. It helps them a lot in learning to lift their head and get that muscle strength. Plus I use it to help my daughter with rolling over as well. We've been doing it since we brought her home from the hospital. She's now 3 months and is just now starting to get into it and like it more.

My daughter is 13 days old and we already started doing it for three minutes a day. They say to do if two or three times a day but she's sleeping a lot so I just do it when she's alert. I don't think there's a time when you necessarily cant do it. Just make sure to supervise them obviously.

Her pediatrician told us 5 minutes a few times a day under supervision is good for her! She's 1 month old, they told us at her 2 week appointment.

Guys, we just tried tummy time on the bed. He got so angry and frustrated for some reason. He loves tummy time on me but will suddenly kick out his legs and then head butt me. What can I do to stop him doing this? It's super sudden, although he has only cried twice out of 6-7 times of doing this, my chin is painful since I have a deep pimple. It feels so bruised. 
Is he frustrated on the bed because he isn't on me (he is super clingy and snuggly at the moment) or because of something else?

Can I put something under his chest for his legs to hang down? He pulls his legs under his tummy like a crumbled downward dog. He then kicks forward and just head butts the play mat which gives me a mini heart attack. Literally I get chest pain for some reason when I see it .

You can do tummy time on your tummy as well.
You lay on tour back and put baby on top of you. Thats how I did it.
