At first I would TRY to bring peace. But after months of disrespect in front of my daughter, I no longer try. I refuse to let anyone around my daughter that is doing to teach her disrespect or show me disrespect in front of her. That is not okay I don't give a shit if it's a cousin or my own dang mom. We don't have to agree, but I won't disrespect you and you won't disrespect me in front of the kids. That's a big no no in my book. That's not a good influence. And if my kids grow up and ask why so and so isn't around I'll be honest with them. Because they cant put aside differences and show respect. I always give people the same respect I expect to get back but I will not tolerate disrespect around my kids. To me or to anyone else. I'm not having my kids growing up acting like fools because they see other adults doing it I'm just not. I don't care, if you love your grandchild you should back off and act right around them and me. I hold my tongue so much I feel like it's gonna fall off some days. But I do it for my kids. But I won't be walked on.

Answer

It's important to make sure your children have a relationship with their grandparents regardless of your feelings towards them. Unless the child would be in danger from them in some way. Having said that, it's also important to stand up for yourself if they are mistreating you. You're all adults and should be able to have adult discussions. It really depends on what the issue is.
