Tampons

Hii so when I first got my period three years ago I tried a tampon and hated it was so uncomfortable and I've never used one since but I want to try and use them so any advice? My flow is normally medium - light so do I not use one when it's light? How do I make it comfortable because I thought you weren't supposed to feel them? Thanks 💕
