Numbing lube

Hi guys, I want to have sex with my boyfriend really badly. We've been together for over a year. Whenever we try to have sex, it's painful and kind of burning sensation. I was wondering if numbing lube would be good for me and if there are any precautions i should take. Please let me know if it's a good idea.
